David Catalán unravels “Open Club” @ Portugal Fashion SS23

In the past October 15th, David Catalán was yet another year at the Portugal Fashion Week, to present his new collection “Open Club” SS23 – inspired by the dance scene of the late 60s and early 70s from New York suburbs like Harlem and Brooklyn.

In the aftermath of the civil rights struggle, there was a movement known to this day as the “Harlem Renaissance”, where musicians, designers, photographers, and all kinds of artists brought a bit of African-American culture to the mainstream. This movement is considered one of the most iconic in the fashion world and marks the concept of individuality, irreverence, and gender fluidity for the first time.

The Spanish designer remained faithful to his usual aesthetic. In the new collection for the spring-summer 2023 season, he offer us a range of relaxed, colorful and comfortable clothes in various fabrics and shapes, where the denim – via shirts and coats – and knits – crafted in polos and short-sleeved shirts – stand out with the collaboration of the specialized Portuguese companies Troficolor and Trimalhas respectively.

The footwear is in charge of the Spanish Callaghan, while the accessories via wallets and bags are presented with the contribution of António Handmade Story. Tailoring and shirting isn’t forgotten and is supported by Rio Pele.

The collection is marked by the debut of a new brand logo - with a retro design referring to the late 60s and early 70s - which can be seen in various pieces such as caps, tracksuits and t-shirts.
